If you’re an active social media user, it should come as no surprise that video is taking over. Did you know that over 8 Billion videos are watched on Facebook every single day?! If you feel overwhelmed when thinking about video, you’re not alone! Not surprisingly, 1 in 4 marketers feel as if they are behind in video marketing. Yikes! We don’t want you to be a part of that statistic; so, to help you get a jump on this evolving medium, we have compiled a few quick tips on how to get the most out of videos on Social Media.

Keep It Short

You may think that having an all-expansive video explaining the details of your business may be a good way to inform users about what your business does, but in reality, it probably won’t hold their attention long enough for them to get anything out of it. Research done by social media experts says that videos up to 2 minutes long get the most engagement. So when designing your video, try to keep it under the magic 2 minute mark–any longer and chances are that users will lose interest!

Make Sound Optional

85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound. If you have sound as a crucial component of the video, such as a voiceover, you should also consider adding captions that mirror the voice over so that users who aren’t listening to your video can still follow along.

Hook Them Early

Arguably the most important parts of your video are the first 3 seconds. If you manage to grab their attention in the first 3 seconds, 65% of Facebook users will watch at least 10 seconds of the video, while 45% of users will continue to watch for at least 30 seconds.

Do It Live!

Live videos can be a great low-budget way to engage with your audience. BuzzFeed did a live video testing how many rubber bands they could fit around a watermelon before it exploded. As wacky of a concept as it sounds, in only 5 days it had racked up over 10 Million Views and over 320,000 comments. Facebook also gives priority on Newsfeeds to Live video, so it is a great way to reach your customers on Facebook.

People are four times more likely to watch a video on a product than read about one. Next time you have an idea to present to your following on social media, see if you can make a video out of it!
