In the world of digital media, video has proven to be super-effective and wildly successful from an ROI perspective. In fact, Diode Digital recently found that online video is a 600% more effective marketing tool than print and direct mail combined!
So if you’re thinking about using video to promote your brand or your business, it’s probably a good bet. But there are a few things to keep in mind so that you can maximize your investment.
- Quality Counts
It’s an investment to make videos that are high quality, but keep in mind that the video quality needs to be appropriate for your message. If you’re just posting an update on Facebook, using your phone camera makes sense and it meets the expected level of quality. But if you’re creating an explainer video that tells potential customers about your business or services, your audience’s expectations increase. If the video is low quality, it can reflect negatively on your brand. Not everything has to be professional grade, but be sure you’re choosing to invest where it counts.
- Length Matters
There’s a big difference in the attention span people will dedicate to watching how-to videos on YouTube versus advertisement videos online. Consider the length of your video when you produce it so that it’s appropriate for the purpose your video serves. For example, at Hookd, we’ve learned that 15 second video ads for YouTube advertising garner 70% more views than longer ads. (See this ad we produced for Hope Gospel Mission) On the other hand, we also know that capturing an audience’s interest in broader messages, like choosing where to relocate with your family, requires a more in-depth approach. (See this video we produced for the Chippewa Falls Area Chamber.) The appropriate video length should keep your audience engaged beginning to end!
- Leverage It Everywhere
Once you make it, use it everywhere you can! Post it on your social media sites, embed it in your email signature, add it to your website and if you’re able, use digital media to drive traffic to it. Video is an investment and an invaluable tool when you make the effort to get it in front of as many people as possible.
When all is said and done, creating and leveraging video in your marketing efforts is an investment with the potential to be a game changer.
