We say we are as much of a research company as we are a marketing company. That’s because data often drives the direction of our marketing efforts at Hookd… and in order to do that, we do lots of research!

Being able to measure and use data is a great perk that’s built right into digital marketing. But data alone isn’t helpful, it needs to be analyzed and put into context. Sometimes when we look at that data we see things that surprise us, other times, not so much. There are also times when the data can be inconclusive. And yet, there are others, like these examples, where the data paints a pretty obvious picture.

Here are five, current, digital marketing stats that tell us a lot when put into context!

1- The #1 searched word on Bing is Google. (Microsoft) This one lets you know which search engine people are using.

Pro Tip: Make sure you look good on Google. If you don’t have a Google My Business account, it’s pretty much a necessity nowadays. Here’s a quick blog article on how to set yours up! In the end, it will help people find you, make you look really good when they do find you, and increase your chances of triggering a phone call or a website visit.

2- Microsoft Edge is the number one browser for downloading Google’s Chrome. (Microsoft) This one pretty clearly demonstrates which browser comes on people’s devices and which one people prefer to use.

Pro Tip: Google your business sometime and if you don’t show up on the first page of results, it’s time to work on your SEO. That will help you show up when people are searching for you in the future. After all, you can’t help them if they can’t find you!

3- As of 2021, the most-used marketing channel by marketers is social media. (Hubspot) This tells us which media deliver the best ROI.

Pro Tip: Even in a world where you may not show up in people’s feeds  as much, paid advertising on social media like Facebook and LinkedIn are a great way to reach your target audience online, gain quality branding impressions, and generate traffic.

4- Nearly 55% of web traffic is on mobile. (Statista, 2021) This tells us what devices audiences prefer to engage on.

Pro Tip: Your audience is engaging with you on mobile! Review your website and all of your marketing on your mobile device to make sure they render appropriately and are legible on mobile devices. Your customers will thank you!

5- Users spent $34 billion on apps in the third quarter of 2021. This tells us how audiences prefer to engage.

Pro Tip: Apps are popular because they make the user experience easy. How do you find out if your website is easy to use? Invite family, friends, or coworkers to review your website and ask them about their experience. Invite their honest opinions and work with your website developer on ways to make their online experience easier and more fluid based on their feedback. In the end, the old adage “keep it simple” goes a long way!

Each one of these stats stands on its own, but together they tell a pretty obvious tale… that a high-quality digital presence is a necessity nowadays. Your audience is online and they expect to not just find, but engage with you there.
