You might’ve asked yourself the question “what is a boosted post on Facebook?” or even “what’s a Facebook ad and why would I want to create one?” Well, you’ve come to the right place because we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about Facebook’s posts, boosted posts, and ads.

Starting with a regular Facebook post, there is no money involved here. These posts will show up on your page and be viewable to the public if they search your page. They will also show up in the personal feed of someone who is following or has liked your page.

This article from SproutSocial gives some great ideas if you are looking to increase engagement through Facebook posts:

  • Ask a question
  • Display something “behind the scenes”
  • Touch on trending topics
  • Use branded graphics
  • Tell a story
  • Include or link to a video

You should also understand what you should be posting on Facebook. Of course you want content that resonates with your target audience, but don’t forget to consider the “Rule of Thirds!” You can read all about this in one of our previous blog posts. You want to show your audience that you are present and ready to interact with them by posting regularly on Facebook. Doing this is also a great way to stay engaged with customers and let them know what’s happening in your world! Below is an interesting graphic to represent the times of day you could see the most engagement with your posts on Facebook.

Next, we’ll dive into boosted Facebook posts. Boosted posts go directly to your page’s timeline and you apply money to them in order to “boost” or show it more often to an audience of your choosing. This is one of the simplest and easiest ways to advertise on Facebook without having to delve into Ads Manager.

One cool feature when you choose to boost a post is that you can also select Instagram as an ad placement so you’ll be getting a double whammy in terms of impressions! When you boost a post you tell Facebook three simple things:

  • Who you want to reach
  • Your max budget
  • How long you want your post to run

Boosting posts is a great way to get more exposure for an important message or call to action your business might have. You should understand that NOT every post you publish needs to be boosted though, we recommend you reserve boosting for special messaging or a unique goal. If you’re wondering if paying for one of your posts to be shown to more people will be worth it check out the number of active users you have the potential to reach in the image below!

And last but not least, we have Facebook ads themselves. These are created through Ads Manager in Facebook and have more advanced and specific customization features. There is a multitude of advertising objectives that can be accomplished through Facebook Ads such as:

  • Gaining page likes, follows, comments, or shares
  • Improving brand awareness, recognition, and overall engagement
  • Optimizing website or landing page conversions
  • And so much more, depending on the goal you set for your ads

Some things you should understand when creating a Facebook Ad is that you are able to: choose different ad placements, meaning you have the potential to gain multiple platform exposure for your ads. Also, you are able to use and identify specific ad objectives such as: conversions, brand awareness, lead generation, and more. You are able to maintain creative control meaning you are able to design an ad that fits your business’ style, which is very important in terms of brand awareness and recognition! And of course the ability to use advanced targeting capabilities, which is immensely important to create a successful campaign.
