Last week we offered great tips on updating your Google My Business profile – the place many prospective clients will find you first! (Read the post HERE.) This week, we’re moving on to another prominent place customers will find you and follow along, your social media channels!
Spring is a great time to give your social media profiles an update. Take an honest look at your social media presence from the perspective of a customer and note your reaction to your profile photo, your cover photo, and the value of your content.
Your profile picture
Is your profile picture clear and appropriately-cropped? Does it express your brand in a positive and easily identifiable way? Remember, most of your customers will view your content in their social media feeds via a mobile device, so making sure your profile picture is easy to recognize is important! (According to Statista, a whopping 98% of active Facebook users accessed their accounts via mobile devices in April 2020.)
Your Cover Photo
Your cover photo is another important branding piece of your social media identity. Make sure the photo you choose is bright, engaging and delivers the right message to your followers and prospective customers. If you have an old (or winter!) image, update with a seasonal image or video. Yes, you can upload a video as the cover for your Facebook page! You’ll just need to size your video correctly.
Is there a message you’d like to convey on your profile? You can include copy on your image or video, just make sure to view your profile on a mobile device to ensure your profile picture doesn’t cover up your message.
Your Content
Lastly, and possibly most-importantly, is your content. You want your followers to engage with you, so take a hard look at your performance. How many people are you reaching with your posts? Are followers reacting, commenting or sharing your posts? Identifying the types of content that will resonate with your audience can be challenging, and it definitely takes some time and testing. Spring is a great time to double down and try some new strategies to boost engagement!
Here are a few tips to consider:
- Concentrate on your visuals. Choose bright, on-brand photos that will make followers pause in their social media feeds.
- Try video! Video is not going away. In fact, it continues to gain momentum! According to Wyzowl, people are twice as likely to share videos with their friends than any other type of content. If that doesn’t convince you to start utilizing video, how about this… according to Animoto, 93% of brands got a new customer because of a social media video. - Test new content. Low on ideas? How about client testimonials, customer reviews, helpful tips from your team members and behind-the-scenes glimpses into your workday or processes.
Stay tuned for the third installment of our spring spruce-up next week! We’ll be tackling website updates.
