How can you establish a consistent brand that translates across all your customer touchpoints? Start by answering these three questions!
Who are you?
This is a very general but necessary question to answer. Start by putting your story – your company’s history and goals – into a living document. Think about where you got started and where you want to go. Writing this out solidifies the essence of who you are as a business.
What do you do?
This question might seem like a no-brainer, but start with what you offer and then get deeper. Take a look at National Geographic’s brand guidelines and you’ll see that they describe what they do by answering “what” their customers get from them on a deeper level. They don’t just provide fascinating stories and imagery, they provide an opportunity to experience the world in a way most customers will never be able to.
How do you show it?
Following along with the National Geographic example, they describe in great detail the look and feel of every element of their brand. From image style to the placement of their logo, everything is carefully structured to illustrate their mission. If you don’t have brand guidelines in place, start by taking a look at your social media, your website, and your other business materials to identify inconsistencies.
Once you have your answers recorded, you’ll have a starting point from which you can make decisions on your website design, marketing channels, customer experiences, and even the people who work with you… so every touchpoint with your brand is cohesive and consistent!
